Having the Brutale returned by Corbin was just what I needed. It gave me some time to learn to ride it while the weather was still warm and the tires could remain functional. A few times I rode the Brutale to work from Tomales to San Francisco at 4:30 am and the outside temperatures were well below freezing. The Pirelli's that were on the bike didn't want to wake up and come out and play. They were miserable in the cold, slipping, sliding, chattering, just plain being stubborn and refusing to give me any traction.
I was still always looking on the Internet for things to buy. That is when I think I came around to discovering
www.mvagusta.net and realized there were more MV Agustas on the road than I could ever have imagined. Up until now I have only seen one Brutale, a red one that goes by my work quite frequently.
The guys on
www.mvagusta.net taught me a lot, best of all from them I discovered my 910R should have come with a few extras that Gary never gave me, the extra exhaust cans, mid pipe and eprom. The next time I saw Gary I quickly asked about the parts. He said he never got them but we could go to Munroe and ask about them because they called him a few times and said they were in.. I said cool, and at this time I was still having problems with the DMV getting a replacement license plate for the original that never arrived, so I figured we could kill two birds with one stone. A few days go by before we can get to Munroe but when we finally do go, I meet the guy that sold Gary the bike. Oh my god what a rude and conceded son of a bitch. This guy thought he was so damn cool and knowledgeable. I forgot his name, he is bald with tattoos, and dumb as a stump.
This was the summer of 07 and the bike was sold to Gary in Sept. 06, so in all fairness I didn't expect Munroe to still have the exhaust. This salesman comes over, from here on in I will reffer to him as
*Jack, for Jackass, since I have forgotten his name. One of the first things I ask this guy was did he still have the exhaust. He said what exhaust? I said the exhaust that came with the 07 910R, the extra exhaust, mid pipe and eprom. He told me flat out that the 07's didn't come with any exhaust, only the 06's did. I wasn't sure so I took his word for it.
Soon we were talking about the fact that the DMV says this bike doesn't exist and we got to looking at the actual paper work involved in the sale of the MV to Gary. It later tuned out that the salesman at Munroe entered Gary's address wrong and the plate was probably stolen, and the DMV had entered the VIN# wrong. This took over a month to correct.
So one night I am home, I log onto to mvagusta.net and ask about the exhaust and I'm told it comes with the 07 910R.I go right back to Munroe and hit up the salesman, he insists that the 07's don't include anything extra. I ask why the price difference, why is the 06 910R thousand of dollars cheaper than the 07? He gives me attitude again and says he will look into it. I said, "go ahead, and call me when you know something, because obviously there is stuff you don't know." He looks at me like he's tough and says,"Like What?" I told him, "Like the fact someone in parts called Gary and said his exhaust was here a while ago. Gary still has the message in his voicemail." Now
*Jack says to give him a call in a few days while he looks for the exhaust.
While I am at Munroe I go back and ask the mechanic about the first service for the 910R and then we start discussing CBR's. He taught me lots of tricks for my CBR's. Soon here comes
*Jack and he starts being rude to the mechanic and tells him a bike needs it's final inspection for delivery or something. I don't pay much attention to what the guy is saying. I apologized to the mechanic for getting him into trouble and started to leave.
On my way out I see a used Brutale for sale. I think it was a 750, but it might have been a 910S. On it is brand new MV Corse exhaust. When I get back to work I mention this to Gary. Coincidence? Maybe.
So far, I really wasn't having a good time with my experiences at Munroe Motors. The mechanic was cool, but everytime I'd go into the place,
*Jack would head me off.
A few days pass, maybe it was even a week.
*Jack calls Gary and said the exhaust was in. Gary and I return to Munroe and
*Jack says he will go to the other warehouse and get the exhaust. He returns about 5 minutes later with a plastic bag containing the mid pipe, two wrapped Corse cans, a small plastic box containing the eprom, and some installation hardware like nuts and springs. He hands it to Gary and Gary hands it to me. I ask, "is this it?" and
*Jack who is licking and ice cream says, "ya."
As we head out the door I point out to Gary the exhaust has someone elses name on it. Not until I get home that afternoon do I notice the bag was opened. I looked to see if the Cans had been used, or the Mid-Pipe, nope, both looked new. The eprom, I removed it and it looked nothing like what I have seen on the net. No MV markings, nothing.
It looked plain. I did notice it had a glue spot on it, and the prongs looked like they had been inserted at one time.
I am suspecting that the eprom is not only used, but it is not even the race eprom that is supposed to be with the exhaust.
